Over fifty volunteers from across the Bruce Peninsula gathered at the home of Donna Baker in Lion’s Head on Wednesday, October 7th to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Bruce Peninsula Hospice. Founding member Pat Horner, and first planning committee chair Shirley Bruer, spoke of their early experiences. Current board chair Bev Ker invited former and current volunteers to share their experiences. Norma Robson, Jean Burrows, Mary Kowaltschuk, Heide Arnold and Donna Baker told engaging stories of their work as visiting hospice volunteers. Pictures and documents of our 20 year history were displayed, and participants were challenged by the BPH history quiz. A delicious fall meal catered by the Marketside Cafe was enjoyed, and a hospice memento created by Norma Robson and Jane Fyvie was gifted to all participants.
The dedication of our volunteers to the work of hospice in our community is remarkable and volunteer visiting hospice has grown tremendously over the past 20 years! Thank you to all of our volunteers, both past and present, who continue to make a tremendous difference with their compassionate presence in our community !
